Message from our Principal, John Triska
Welcome to our newest Upper Elementary program in San Carlos: Mariposa! This year, Mariposa Monarchs are learning on three sites– 4th graders at Heather and Arundel Schools, and 5th graders at Tierra Linda– while we wait for our new Mariposa School campus to be completed for us for our start of the August 2018-19 school year. But we are not waiting until then to unveil our student-centered program!
All our teachers have been uniquely selected to collaborate and create the new Mariposa program. Please take a moment to learn more about this amazing team on our Staff Page. Our teachers are part of a much larger team of educators including support staff, administrators, and the many parents who volunteer to facilitate additional exciting opportunities for our students at our three sites.
Mariposa’s program aims to highlight the SCSD Habits of Mind for 21st Century Learners (Ownership, Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking and Citizenship/Stewardship) and to personalize deeper learning through PBL (Project Based Learning). Our design encourages and supports risk taking, play, and the pursuit of individual passions, while fostering intrinsic motivation to learn and discover the world around us. We look for ways to extend learning beyond classroom walls, including robust after school offerings and flexible learning environments, to best meet all of our students’ needs.
I look forward to working with you as we develop our new identity this year!
