Hello Mariposa families.
I know you were emailed the Mariposa/TL newsletter, which Mr. Kaufman and I hope is a good way to share information about both our programs in a simplified format. In addition to that weekly update, I’ll be sharing Mariposa communications with you, directly.
Despite the last minute, final preparations to open TL, our teachers and students enjoyed an exciting and satisfying first week of school. Students are already learning classroom routines, and began meeting with their electives and PE teachers. Friendships are being revisited, and new ones are forming. Even with the workers still out front, traffic flowed at drop off and pick up, and drivers remained cheerful! Friday’s Mariposa/TL Principals Coffee was well attended, and helped us make a few more connections. Nice work, students, teachers, and families!
A big THANK YOU goes to parent Hazel Stabinsky for helping out this weekend by procuring umbrellas for our lunch tables, in preparation for the warmer weather forecasted for the next few weeks. We have some beautiful oaks there that provide us shade, but the umbrellas will add more for the otherwise exposed tables. She’s also put together some games and activities to give students alternatives to playing on the playground, as we wait for it to be finished for us.
This Wednesday 8/30 from 6:30-8:00 is Mariposa@TL’s Back to School Night. This event is for parents and guardians; students do not attend this event.
Before teachers share with you in their classrooms, we will meet 6:30-7:00 in the new Learning Commons. During that 30 minutes:
I’ll share an overview of our SCSD and Mariposa goals for the year.
The PE and electives teachers will share their programs and expectations with you.
I’ll explain how you can sign up to volunteer at Mariposa– because that still happens in our Upper Elementary schools! One exciting new addition to the 5th grade program is continuing our outstanding Art in Action program, led by volunteer docents, sponsored by our PTA. Please bring your calendars so you can coordinate dates, if you’d like to help out here at school.
We will also have an brief update from the School Board re. the Superintendent selection process.
Please note that tomorrow, Tuesday, 8/29 is a special minimum day, with students dismissed at 1:20. For your planning, here is a list of all the minimum days for SCSD this year.
I look forward to seeing you Wednesday!
